On October 27th we attended the 2018 North Union VEX Qualifier. At this event, which we considered to be a great success, we won some matches, lost some matches, but most importantly, were able to gain an idea of how this VEX season would likely proceed and the steps we would need to take in order to make the best of this year.
All six teams; 7316A, 7316B, 7316D, 7316E, 7316F, and 7316T, boarded the school bus before dawn with their robots ready, their logs completed, and their hopes high. At the event, all six teams were able to pass inspection and compete in six qualifying matches each. Our highest highest seated team was 7316D in the sixth rank with 7316B just behind them in eighth rank, soon followed by 7316E in eleventh rank.
In the alliance selection, team 7316B was chosen by team 1181B, team 7316D allianced with 11124P, 7316E joined 4112A, 7316T was chosen by 4805B, and last but not least, teams 7316A and 7316F allianced with each other.
Teams 7316A and 7316F lost their first elimination match together, as did 7316T. 7316B was the next to be knocked out in the quarterfinals as well as 7316D. Team 7316E survived the elimination rounds the longest and lost in the semifinals.
At the end of the competition, team 7316E took home the Think award for their outstanding autonomous and programming and team 7316D was able to qualify for States through their exceptional engineering notebook that allowed them to take home the Design Award.
Overall, all the teams considered this experience to be a great and insightful competition and we look forward to continuing this season.
