The Founders of Robotics

Writer's picture: Firestone RoboticsFirestone Robotics

We mark our beginnings of Firestone Robotics in late 2011.

In the beginning, it was only a small group of five close friends with a common aim to expand their horizons and learn about one thing; VEX Robotics. Through hard work and dedication, they were able to spark the flame that would later come to be known as the Firestone Robotics Club. Follow this link here to learn more about the club's history.

These are the club #founders.

Louis Ray was one of the first #alumni of Firestone Robotics, graduating in 2011. However, he was also one of the first members. He later went on to attend the University of Akron where he majored in biochemistry. He was the first club president during the 2010 and 2011 season. While he never was able to participate in a VEX Competition, he still enjoyed his time starting the club and preparing it for the following year.

David Cardew was a original founder of the Firestone Robotics club. He graduated in 2012 and later went on to attend the Ohio State University where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He held the office of president from 2011 to 2012. He is also labeled as the 'Father of Stringbot'. He played during the 2011 to 2012 VEX Game 'Gateway', though was not part of a competitive team.

Lilith Freed was a founder of the Firestone Robotics club who graduated in 2014. After high school, she went on to attend the Case Western Reserve University with a full ride scholarship where she majored in biomedical engineering. She was a vice president during the 2012 to 2013 season, and later became a president for the following 2013 to 2014 season. She participated in the non-competitive 2011 to 2012 Gateway team, 2012 to 2013's Sack Attack 7316A team, and 2013 to 2014's 7316B Toss Up team.

Gavin Markowitz was a founder of the Firestone Robotics Club who graduated in 2012. Once graduated, he attended the Case Western Reserve University where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He was a club treasurer during the 2011 to 2012 season.

Joshua "Jshoff" Hoffman was a founder of the Firestone Robotics Club who graduated in 2014. He later attended the University of Akron with a full ride scholarship for Mechanical Engineering. He participated in the 2012 to 2013 game of Sack Attack in team 7316A and the 2013 to 2014 game of Toss Up in team 7316C.

We thank the above alumni for starting the Firestone Robotics Club and will always welcome them to come back and see where the club has gone and what it has become. Good luck alumni! Thank you for all you have done!
